Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to the new Big Swing site!

It’s all new, both what you see and under the hood (thanks to WordPress). And while bigswing.us may seem a little sparse right now, over the coming days and weeks, we’ll be adding content to our portfolio and news sections.

bigswing.us circa 2007, good times ...

A quick note about the first Big Swing site: I loved it, and I’m sad to see it go.

First launched in 2005 using the Movable Type publishing platform, it featured Big Swing’s photo illustration work, our exclusive focus at the time. Most imaging sites back then were flash-based picture galleries featuring one big colorful image after another and I decided to take a different approach for our online portfolio.

Being most interested in the stories behind the images, our portfolio was built using a new way of presenting information: the weblog. Big Swing’s portfolio was composed of longer articles, giving readers a behind the scenes view of making each image. (It was also about this same time that we abandoned making physical, printed portfolios.)

Turns out the blog-based portfolio seemed pretty strange to a lot of people. Our then agent, some clients, and most of our colleagues and competitors thought the format was awkward, and would most likely not be effective.

But we stuck to our guns, and over time as more firms gravitated to the format, our site seemed less and less out of place. We started feeling pretty good about the decision and the site ultimately became very successful.

Well, things change; and in part because of our early experience with blogging, marketing, and Movable Type, Big Swing has grown into a full service design studio, offering not just imaging, but pretty much anything a small to medium sized client might need, from web to billboards, from labels to logos. In short, we make things.

Our new skin here at bigswing.us allows us to expand our use of the blog format portfolio. Our articles will be more interactive, and we’ll be publishing much more frequently, on a wider range of subjects than ever before.

And in time, when this new site is old, I hope to look back as fondly as I do today and say thank you for the past, and what’s next?
